And win we did, with a 3-2 triumph over Schofields Scorpians at CSI Field. The day kicked off with great omens for UNSW with no less than 4 players and officials managing to lock their keys in unaccessible places.

Once the NRMA had left, the game got underway and UNSW stayed true to form by conceding an early goal off an error. After 9 minutes, Harby opened his account, albiet at the wrong end, squeezing a neat cross in at the near post. The website claims it wasn't an OG, but those who had the ball fly past them know better. Schofields had a chance to go 2 up but the outstretched size 13 of Mulroney saved the day.

But in a sign of character, UNSW was able to hit back just 5 minutes later. A great ball from Chuck D combined with a peircing run from Evo, topped off with an unselfish decoy from Rod was the recipe for success and Evo duly agreed, burying the ball in the back of the net.

UNSW went into half time even and quietly confident of getting a result. But there was still 45 minutes standing between the club and the points.

And the second half got off to a less-than-ideal start. UNSW conceded a corner, which was headed weakly goalwards and towards a lone Scorpian. Mulroney then did his best $2 hooker routine and had the ball knocked through his legs and somehow managed to perfectly bisect Evo and Chuck D who were guarding the posts.

At this stage it felt like it could be one of those days, but once again UNSW dug deep and, combined with a few select substitutions, managed to claw their way back into the contest. A vintage Groth run in behind the defence, followed by the trademark Groth cutback [Kodos claimed he'd read about the cut back in yesterday's Herald] resulted in a very welcome Groth goal and it was 2-2.

The crowd had barely resumed their seats when they were up again to see Evo grab the lead with a superb diving header just 2 minutes later. A brace of goals in just his third start for the 1's was gladly accepted.

It could have been more, with Rich unlucky to miss a 1-on-1 and Pat seeing his rocket of a half volley brilliantly saved.

But the damage was done and it was a golden 3 points for the magnificent men in the yellow and black.
